How Flocking Works…

We will be moving 3 Flocks (of 10 plastic flamingos) each day.  The flock will be sent to an unsuspecting, good-humored, and generous friend.  Birds will be delivered either late at night or early in the morning (unless otherwise requested).  A hang tag will be attached describing our fundraiser and the instructions for removal of the flock.  The flock will be removed for a donation and the residence will be INSURED AGAINST ALL FUTURE FLOCKINGS from CIFSC for the season.  (If a person prefers not to participate in this fundraiser, the flock will be removed at no charge. Removal does not REQUIRE a payment, however, a donation to CIFSC Synchronized Skating Teams would be greatly appreciated.)  This is meant to be FUN—not malicious---and in order to be successful we need willing participants.

What we need…

The flocks are here and ready to roost—all we need are 3 volunteer (adult) FLOCK MANAGERS and some JUNIOR FLOCK HERDERS (skaters) with the following skills:

·        Able to be VERY QUIET and work under the cover of darkness

·        Able to take care and not damage shrubbery or flowers or sprinklers

·        Able to keep calm even when that “almost getting caught” feeling brings on the giggles

·        Able to get together with other Junior Flock Herders to help the flock to migrate to a new location

·        Able to wear your club jacket and represent our team with pride.

Other information…

Although this fundraiser is meant in good-natured fun, we need to remember that not everyone has a sense of humor.  If anyone objects to the flock roosting on his or her property, please remove the flock with a smile---remember to use good manners at all times.

Junior Flock Herder and Parent Duties

(click to go back)

1. Sign up on one of the 3 calendars (Flocking Calendar #1,  Flocking Calendar #2, or Flocking Calendar #3) for one week (Sunday to Saturday) using the password you were given in your registration packet.  Parents will be responsible for supervising skater (Jr. Flock Herder) while she is moving the flock (a set of 20 plastic flamingos) from one location to another.  The flock moves every night –you will be responsible for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

2. Jr. Flock Herders will sign up with one other skater.  Jr. Herders need to provide transportation for the flock – move them to a new location.  Please coordinate with the other parent to make sure AT LEAST ONE ADULT IS PRESENT DURING THE ENTIRE FLOCKING PROCESS

3. Check the website before flocking (click link: Flocked Addresses) to make sure an address hasn’t already been flocked.  Contact the Flock Manager (listed on the top of the calendar you signed up on) daily with the address of each house that you flock.  It’s important to do this daily as we need to update the website to avoid flocking an address more than once.  The flock needs to be moved DAILY---the faster they migrate---the more funds we will raise.

4.  When flocking a residence, please be very careful not to destroy flowers, landscaping or anything else.  We need to remember this is to be fun and not malicious in any way.  Care needs to be taken with the flock as well.  Do not place flock near sprinklers. Flock will not be placed in apartment complexes or on public property.   If possible, try to place the flock far enough away from the street to avoid theft.  Although it would be fun to flock under the cover of darkness, this may not always be possible, especially with our younger skaters.  Please be sure to wear your team jacket and be polite to anyone you encounter.

5. Enter the names of the junior flock herders and the time and date you’ll return along with your phone number  (Flock Removal Hotline) in the spaces provided on each hang tag/order form.  Hang this tag on one flamingo, making it very visible to the homeowner.  Return the next day, between the times you listed on the hang tag, to pick up the flock and collect donations (and give receipts for donations).   Move the flock to the next location – making sure to replace the hang tag.

6.  Contact the Flock Manager for additional receipts and hang tags/order forms that are placed around the neck of one of the flamingos.

7.  If a residence is flocked and doesn’t want to contribute to the fundraiser, please GRACIOUSLY remove the flock.  You will need to come up with a new residence to flock.  (Call Colleen if you need ideas or come up with one of your own).  If a residence is accidentally flocked more than once, we will remove the flock at no charge.

8.  Make arrangements to turn in all order forms/donations to the Flock Manager at the end of your week.

Have Fun!!  Be Safe!!  Be careful with property and the flock!!

Volunteer Flock Manager Duties

(click to go back)

1.  Check your flocking calendar  (Flocking Calendar #1,  Flocking Calendar #2, or Flocking Calendar #3)  to make sure the flock has Jr. Herders signed up for the entire fundraiser.  Call Colleen for substitutes, if needed.  (715-343-5424)

2.  Flock needs to be moved DAILY---the faster they migrate---the more funds we will raise.

3.  Please be CERTAIN there will be  ADULT SUPERVISION during the flocking.  NO JR. HERDER IS ALLOWED TO FLOCK WITHOUT AN ADULT PRESENT!!!  Speak directly with the PARENT of the Jr. Herder---make sure the parent is aware of the need to protect property etc.

4.  Junior Herders/Parents will be contacting you (via email or phone), every time they move the flock, with the new address that has been flocked .  You will need to forward that information to Sue xxx daily so she can update the website, listing all locations that have already been flocked (click link: Flocked Addresses).  This is really important since we don’t want to flock the same residence twice. You will need to know where your flock is at all times.

5.  Contact the next week’s Junior Herders to let them know the current location of the flock so they can take over herding duties.

6.  Have a supply of hangtag information/order form sheets and receipts and make sure Jr. Herders have these available when moving the flock.

7.  Collect all flocking funds for your herd—balance to the order forms.  Turn all money in to Colleen at the end of the fundraiser.

8.  Do not hesitate to contact Colleen with questions or suggestions.  This is all new and we will undoubtedly learn through trial and error.
