“Grassroots to Champions” Seminar

What are Grassroots to Champions Seminars?  (From the Grassroots to Champions Website, http://grassrootstochampions.com/)
 
Our mission is to raise the technical level of US skaters over the next 4 years. The seminars focus on teaching coaches and their skaters how to develop from the first steps onto the ice into a championship caliber competitor.

The main topics covered in the seminars:
1. Jumps from singles to doubles to triples to quads
2. Off-ice jumping for correct air positions
3. Correct take-off prints and landings
4. Alignment of body positions
5. How to use the jumping pole with Nick Perna, special request speaker
6. How Dartfish can speed the learning process with Chris Conte, special request speaker
7. Proper equipment fitting
8. How to prepare for competition
9. Grassroots to Champions lecture on the process of becoming a skater in full bloom
10. Performance Power with Dr. Caroline Silby, PhD, special request speaker
11. On-ice and off-ice air position correction, only available at Fairfax Ice Arena
12. Select tots, how to identify talent in your group lesson programs
13. Conditioning the body for skating at the elite level

Which Coaches from G2C are Coming to our Camp?

Sheila Thelen
Ms. Thelen is the Executive Director of Grassroots to Champions. She holds a Professional Skaters Association Master Rating, and from 1998-2008 was the Skating Director at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center located in Stillwater, Minnesota. Ms. Thelen is the Designer and President of Champion Cords (Endorsed by the Professional Skaters Association International) for teaching skaters: alignment, position, muscle memory, awareness and technique.

Chris Conte
Chris Conte is a PSA rated coach and choreographer based in Laurel, MD. He will demonstrate/speak on how Dartfish technology can speed the learning process. Conte is choreographer to International & National level skaters in Pairs & Freestyle, and has worked with skaters including Tim Goebel, Sasha Cohen and Emily Hughes. He was a Principal Skater with Ice Capades and Disney on Ice, and also has performed with professional ensemble companies including The Next Ice Age and Ice Theatre of New York. Conte also gave a technology presentation at the 2001 PSA World Conference on Creative Music Editing, and is a Certified Instructor of Therapeutic Pilates.

Ross Lansel
Ross Lansel is an International coach and choreographer, specializing in jump technique both on and off-ice. He is available for all levels of instruction, including on and off-ice training, Pro-Motion harness lessons, program choreography and Dartfish video analysis. He is the coach of 2005 Estonia Champion Tommy Steenberg.

Coaches:  CIFSC coaches may attend all sessions, participate, take notes, ask questions & "Coaches Chat" during lunch
Parents: Parents are encouraged to attend "Parents Chat" and watch their skater grow all day.

8:00-8:15 am   Intro
8:15-8:45 am   Dartfish classroom and G2C off-ice h/d positions
8:45-8:50 am   Break into 3 groups (2 on-ice and 1 off-ice)
8:50-9:30 am   2 on-ice classes, 1 off-ice
9:35-10:15 am   Rotate groups
10:20-11:00 am   Rotate groups
11:00 am-12:00 pm   Lunch, coaches chat w/G2C coaches
12:00-12:50 pm   Off-ice presentations
1:00-2:00 pm   3 groups (2 on-ice and 1 off-ice)
2:00-3:00 pm   Rotate
3:00-4:00 pm   Rotate
4:00-4:30 pm   Parents chat off-ice, all groups on-ice review
4:30-5:00 pm   Wrap-up, bye
