JANUARY 2008 CIFSC NEWSLETTER

 Good Luck, Skaters!
Best of luck to all our skaters competing at Badger State and other upcoming competitions! Remember, you represent our club while at these competitions. Please show good sportsmanship. Wish your fellow club members good luck, cheer each other on, and congratulate all other competitors.

If you are not competing at Badger State, please consider coming to watch and cheer our club members on. A schedule showing when club members are skating is available at the rink or it can be viewed on the website at www.sk8stuff.com/bsg. Best of luck, everyone!

Show Book Ads Needed..... Please Help!!
We are asking that every family recruit one business to advertise in the Ice Show Book this year. Last year we barely had enough advertisers to cover the cost of the book. Contact places you regularly do business or family members who own a business. For your convenience, we have included a copy of the letter for you to use when contacting a business. We have a list of businesses who regularly place ads in the book and we would like to expand on this list. In the past this book helped generate funds for the club, which in turn reduced the cost of ice.

Tips for a Successful Competition - Submitted by Lynda Schrader
-Have your skates sharpened about two weeks before a competition in order to have good, sharp skates, but enough time to get used to them.  Make sure all screws are tight.
-Bring TWO copies of all your music. Turn in one copy and keep one copy handy.
-Check to make sure you have all the costumes you need and that they are laundered.  Having a spare is a good idea as well.  Wear your competition costume to a skating session to get used to how it's going to feel and to make any adjustments it might need.  Skate in your costume without gloves or a sweater.
-Try to have a close-fitting sweater for warming up in.  A sweater looks better than a warm-up suit jacket.  White gloves look nice as well.
-Keep a spare pair of laces and tights in your skate bag.
-Bring along a needle, thread, safety pins, scissors, and a screw driver.
-Don't forget hair accessories and make-up
-Most importantly; DON"T FORGET YOUR SKATES!!
-Always remember to have a positive attitude; smile and have fun
-Arrive at the rink about one hour before your skate time.
-After your event, don't forget to pick up your music before you go home.

Stevens Point Red Panthers Figure Skating Team
This year we started a high school team that will compete at the Marquette, Michigan competition at the end of February. Anyone in 9th grade and above attending any Public or Private school in Stevens Point can join the team. The cost ranges anywhere from $135 - $200, depending upon the number of skaters on the team. This cost includes coaching and competition fees, and the team dress and jacket. It does not include your own travel and lodging expenses. We need to know who may be interested in joining the team next year as the team dresses have been discontinued.  If you think you may want to join next year, please contact Sherri Moscinski ASAP so that a dress can be ordered for you before they are sold out. You may contact her via e-mail at: ksmoscinski@charter.net.
